Hope

Hope

(The Christian hope is in that which is yet to come. Hope is based on one’s faith that God has prepared for His people something far greater than our existence in this present world.)

A. Origin of hope:

1. Comes from the word of God (Psalms 119:42-43, 81, 114, 147).

2. Comes from God’s promises (Acts 26:6-7; Titus 1:2).

3. Comes from the oath of God (Hebrews 6:18-19).

4. Comes from trusting God (Psalms 78:7; 146:5; Jer 17:17; Romans 15:13).

5. Comes from love (1 Cor 13:7).

B. Description of the Christian's hope:

1. It is better (Hebrews 7:19).

2. It is good (2 Thess 2:16).

3. It is blessed (Titus 2:13).

4. It is steadfast (Hebrews 6:19).

5. It is living (1 Peter 1:3).

C. Object of the Christian's hope:

1. The final coming of Jesus (Romans 8:22-25; Titus 2:13; Rev 22:20).

2. The bodily resurrection (Acts 23:6; 2 Cor 5:1-8).

3. Eternal life (Titus 1:2; 3:7).

4. Glory (Romans 5:2; 8:18; Col 1:27).

5. Christ (1 Cor 15:19; 1 Thess 1:1).

D. Earthly results of hope:

1. It gives peace of mind (Acts 2:26; Phil 4:6).

2. It generates boldness (Romans 5:5).

3. It produces rejoicing (Romans 12:12).

4. It encourages unity (Eph 4:4).

5. It gives assurance (Hebrews 6:11; Prov 14:32).

6. It is an anchor for life (Hebrews 6:18-19).

7. It produces self-purification (1 John 3:3).
