In this busy world, we tend to think that we can think and talk about material things for hours and then in an instant switch our thoughts to spiritual things for an hour or two and then change the dial back to worldly cares for the rest of the day. If we are going to participate in a period of public worship, we should prepare for the occasion. The priest of the Old Testament era spent much time in preparation to offer sacrifices to God. Here are a few simple suggestions of ways we can prepare for worship.
PRAY before attempting to worship.
READ THE BIBLE before leaving home to participate in worship.
THINK ABOUT GOD and not other people. (Their dress, faults, mannerisms, etc.)
BE FILLED WITIT A DESIRE to worship God.
PARTICIPATE in each service as if it were going to be your last opportunity to worship God on earth. It might be.
We must first be sure that we are Christians and in a relationship with God in which we can offer true worship and then be led by the word of God into a knowledge of how to worship God acceptably. May we put forth the effort to accomplish this. “you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5).
